Lot 947: A George III style mahogany pedestal desk and a contemporary desk chair
A mid-20th-century pedestal desk in the George III style, featuring mahogany construction with decorative flame mahogany veneers to the drawer fronts. The rectangular top is inset with a red leather writing surface featuring gold-tooled borders. The desk is configured with three frieze drawers over two pedestals, each containing three graduated drawers, providing a total of nine drawers. Each drawer is fitted with a pair of brass swan-neck handles and a central keyhole. The pedestals are supported by traditional bracket feet. Included in the lot is a contemporary side chair of mahogany-stained hardwood construction, featuring a curved slatted back and a padded seat upholstered in a light beige fabric.
Condition report:
The desk is in fair used condition with significant signs of age and wear. The leather writing surface is heavily scuffed, stained, and faded. The mahogany finish shows various surface scratches, scuffs, and areas of wear, particularly concentrated around the base and edges. The chair frame has minor scuffs and a visible white mark on one back slat. The fabric seat upholstery is heavily soiled and stained.
