Lot 1018: Philip D. Hawkins, Sunshine And Steam, Framed Monochromatic Print
A monochromatic blue-toned commercial print after an original work by the railway artist Philip D. Hawkins, titled Sunshine And Steam. The scene depicts the Great Western Railway King Class steam locomotive No. 6023 King Edward II pulling the Cornish Riviera Express past a station platform. The composition includes various figures, notably a young boy in the foreground observing the passing train. The print features the artist’s printed signature Philip D. Hawkins in the lower-left corner of the image. Printed text in the lower margin identifies the work as Specially commissioned by BBC Radio Devon Radio Bristol Radio Cornwall and notes it was Published by Quicksilver Publishing Company. The piece is presented in a multi-layered mount and a dark wood frame with a gilt inner slip.
Condition report:
The print appears to be in good condition with no visible evidence of foxing, fading, or toning to the paper. The mount and frame are well-preserved with only minor surface wear consistent with age and handling.
