Lot 1030: A mid-20th-century dark-stained pine Welsh dresser by Mousehole Furniture
This Welsh kitchen dresser is constructed from pine with a dark ebony-coloured stained finish, contrasted by a natural knotted pine interior. The piece is identified by a circular brass maker’s medallion located on the interior, which features a stylized mouse head graphic surrounded by the text Mousehole Furniture. The item is built in two primary sections. The removable upper hutch features a central open shelving unit with two shelves fitted with plate grooves, set against a beaded-panel back. This central section is flanked by two cupboards with glazed doors featuring leaded diamond-lattice panes. The lower base unit comprises three frieze drawers situated above a three-door cupboard. The central drawer contains fixed wooden partitions for cutlery, while the two flanking drawers are lined with red baize. The three lower cupboard doors are decorated with raised, shaped rectangular panels. The dresser is fitted throughout with turned wooden knobs.
Condition report:
The dresser is in fair condition and is currently disassembled into its two main components. There is a heavy accumulation of dust and visible surface marks, most notably on the top surface of the base unit. The stained finish shows minor scuffs and age-related wear consistent with use. One cupboard door requires a minor hinge adjustment to hang correctly.
