Lot 272: A Collection of Victorian and Later Decorative Ceramics including a Cheese Dish and Victoria China Tea Wares
This lot comprises a varied collection of decorative ceramics, primarily for tea and table use, featuring Victorian and later pieces. Included is an earthenware cheese dish and cover of traditional wedge form, decorated with a transfer-printed floral pattern in shades of pink, yellow, and brown, with a moulded handle featuring gilt highlights. The collection also contains a square Art Deco style earthenware side plate with a cream ground, decorated with stylised yellow sunflowers and black foliage, dating circa 1930s. Landscape-themed items include a circular plate with a polychrome transfer-printed cathedral scene, possibly Salisbury, and a small blue and white transfer-printed saucer depicting a snowy mountain landscape with a church. Further pieces include a scalloped-edge plate with hand-painted floral sprays and grey scrollwork borders, a square serving dish with twin integral handles and cobalt blue borders with floral vignettes, and an assortment of teacups and saucers, including one cup with a bright pink interior. One teacup bears a green backstamp for the Victoria China factory, Altrohlau, Czechoslovakia, with the word VICTORIA in an arc over a circular emblem and the hand-painted number 310.
