Lot 959: A Mid-20th Century Wood Veneer Blanket Chest
A mid-20th-century storage chest or blanket box of rectangular form. The piece is constructed from a plywood carcass finished in a dark-stained wood veneer with a mahogany effect. The interior is lined with a lighter-toned wood-faced plywood and is reinforced with internal triangular corner blocks at the joints. It features a hinged lid with an overhanging lip, fitted with an internal metal safety chain stay. The front panel is embellished with a single scrolled and foliate cast metal motif. The chest stands on a simple plinth base with bracket-style cutouts at the front. No manufacturer’s marks or stamps are visible on the item.
