Lot 577: A Collection of Ceramic Vessels and a Southeast Asian Keris
A collection comprising two ceramic vessels and an Indonesian keris with its associated scabbard. The larger ceramic vessel is of bulbous form with a yellow-ochre glaze, featuring a hand-painted band of interlocking black ovals around the shoulder. The smaller vessel is cylindrical with a white-on-brown lattice and dot motif. A paper label from Liskeard Auction Rooms identifying the lot as 577 is adhered to the neck of the larger vessel. The keris features a traditional wavy steel blade with visible pamur pattern welding. The hilt and scabbard are fashioned from a light-coloured carved material, likely bone or a moulded resin, depicting intricate scrolling floral and zoomorphic iconography characteristic of Malay or Javanese craftsmanship. The hilt is designed to fit onto the exposed tang of the blade.
