Lot 637: The Evening News; Daily Express. A Collection of Vintage British Newspapers. Various Publishers, 1942-1946.
A collection of original mid-20th-century British newspapers, primarily documenting the events of the Second World War and the subsequent Nuremberg trials. Included in the group is an issue of the Evening News dated Tuesday, 1 October 1946, carrying the headline 12 MEN TO HANG, reporting on the final verdicts of the International Military Tribunal. Also present is an issue of the Express (Daily Express) dated 27 March 1942, featuring headlines such as WE WIN OR DIE, SAYS MacA. and reports on the Burma campaign. The lot is bundled with orange twine and includes various contemporary reports, advertisements, and forecasts. The newspapers are printed on period newsprint and bear original prices of one penny. One issue is marked with a Liskeard Auction Rooms lot sticker (637) and a hand-written paper slip (9475).
