Lot 496: An Assortment of Vintage English Porcelain and Earthenware Teawares including a Plate Attributed to Clarice Cliff and Other Manufacturers
This collection of mid-20th-century British ceramics comprises multiple teacups, saucers, and a side plate. According to accompanying vendor documentation, the lot includes pieces attributed to manufacturers such as Clarice Cliff, Paragon, Coalport, Minton, Colclough, and Shelley. A notable component of the group is a cream-coloured earthenware side plate decorated with concentric yellow and blue bands, a pattern characteristic of art deco-influenced designs by Clarice Cliff for Newport Pottery. The assortment of teacups and saucers features various decorative styles, primarily transfer-printed floral motifs including pink roses, wildflower sprays, and garlands. One cup features a detailed butterfly motif to the interior, while another pair displays an Oriental-style landscape with pagodas, bridges, and figures. The vessels exhibit a variety of traditional forms such as fluted, scalloped, and pedestal-footed shapes. Many pieces are finished with gilt-rimmed edges. While the vendor sign identifies several notable factories, specific maker’s marks on the bases are not visible in the photographs to provide definitive confirmation for each individual item.
