Lot 394: An Assortment of Japanese and Decorative Ceramics
An assortment of 20th-century decorative ceramics and tableware. The collection includes a group of porcelain soup plates featuring a transfer-printed foliate and wheat ear pattern in shades of blue and grey. Included is a large, square shallow serving dish decorated in an Imari style with hand-painted and transfer floral motifs, featuring a central panel of flowers and a border with phoenix and scrollwork. The lot contains a novelty teapot modelled as a cottage or shop, featuring hand-painted details and a clock face to the roof. Also present is a group of Japanese lustre-ware teacups and saucers in iridescent orange, yellow, and blue glazes with gilt handles. A white porcelain partial tea service with gilt highlights comprises a teapot, cream jug, and several teacups and saucers. The teapot base bears an orange backstamp featuring a laurel wreath enclosing the letters TYC above the text Nagoya Japan, attributed to Toyo Ceramics. Other pieces include two miniature cups with green and gold foliate decoration on a single saucer and a porcelain saucer with a yellow border and pink floral scroll pattern. A black backstamp featuring a crown emblem above a ribbon scroll containing the words Fine China and Made in Japan is visible on the lustre-ware.
