Lot 410: Two Mid-20th Century British Steel 20 Litre Jerry Cans
A pair of vintage 20-litre pressed-steel fuel or liquid containers, commonly known as jerry cans. Both cans feature the classic triple-handle grip and cam-lock lids designed for secure closure and easy handling.
The first can, finished in a light green paint, retains a partial paper label on the shoulder with the word WATER printed in red. The front face is marked with hand-painted blue characters appearing to read 17 and W. It is embossed with 20l to the side, indicating its capacity.
The second can is finished in a darker olive drab paint and features the standard embossed X-pattern reinforcement. This can bears embossed markings on the side panel including the letters BSC on the upper line, and the date 1951 or 1954 on the line below, suggesting a British manufacturer and mid-century production date. It also has a small adhesive label numbered 410.
