Lot 446: A Set of Roslyn China Rita Pattern Tea Ware
A set of fine bone china tea ware manufactured by Roslyn China, formerly Reid and Co., of Longton, Staffordshire, England. The service is decorated in the Rita pattern, number 8436, featuring transfer-printed clusters of yellow and white primrose-style flowers with green foliage, positioned above a brown basket-weave or lattice border. The collection comprises teacups with flared rims and loop handles, a stack of matching saucers, a cream jug, and a larger circular bread and butter plate with a scalloped edge. All items are finished with gold-gilt rims and gilt highlights to the handles. The bases carry the printed manufacturer mark in gold and brown tones, which reads FINE BONE ROSLYN China MADE IN ENGLAND RITA, accompanied by a hand-painted pattern number in red. This backstamp was used by the factory during the mid-20th century, circa 1946 to 1963.
