Lot 455: An Edwardian Style Cast Iron Electric Food Warmer attributed to Williamsburg
An electric table-top food warmer or hot plate, attributed to Williamsburg and designed in the Edwardian style. The object comprises a decorative cast iron frame with a dark finish, featuring intricate scrollwork, foliate patterns, and a prominent rose motif at the handle end. The central circular heating element is topped with a polished metal plate, likely chrome-plated steel or aluminium. The reverse side reveals a vented cast housing for the electrical components. The piece is fitted with a long, two-core fabric-wrapped electrical cord. This item is an early example of domestic electrical appliance design, intended for use as a table-top heater. A manufacturer’s label is present on the underside but is not clearly legible. As this is a vintage electrical appliance with original-style fabric wiring, it is sold as a historical collectible for decorative purposes. It must be inspected and tested by a qualified electrician before any attempt is made to connect it to a power supply.
