Lot 467: Middle Eastern Hand-Knotted Persian Style Silk and Cashmere Rug 6.5ft by 4ft
A hand-knotted Middle Eastern rug in the Persian city-weaving style, constructed from silk and cashmere. The rug features a classic central-medallion composition with a large, complex polylobed medallion in shades of navy, coral, and cream set against a light ivory field. The field is densely decorated with an all-over pattern of scrolling floral vines, palmettes, and stylized foliate motifs, some of which incorporate bird figures. The four corner spandrels are intricately detailed with scrolling floral work that complements the central medallion. The main field is enclosed by a sophisticated multi-border system consisting of a wide principal border with a cream ground decorated with repeating floral sprays and scrolling vines, flanked by several smaller geometric and floral guard borders in contrasting tones. The foundation is made of cotton, visible on the reverse side which confirms the hand-knotted construction.
