Lot 664: A collection of Chinese red-finished chopsticks and ceramic chopstick rests
A collection of vintage Chinese table accessories comprising a set of ceramic chopstick rests and an assortment of red-finished chopsticks. The glazed white ceramic chopstick rests feature a lobed petal-form base and a raised rest, each decorated with a polychrome transfer-printed motif depicting a female figure in traditional robes, possibly a Meiren or celestial maiden. The collection of chopsticks features a red lacquer or painted finish, with several examples embellished with gilt Chinese characters reading Shou Bi Nan Shan (壽比南山), a traditional auspicious phrase wishing for longevity as high as the Southern Mountain. Other sticks display decorative bands near the top with traditional figures in Ming or Qing-style dress and floral patterns. The items date from the second half of the 20th century.
