Lot 745: Late 19th or Early 20th Century Folk Art Stained Softwood Corner Settle Cabinet
A vernacular folk art corner settle cabinet, likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The piece is constructed from dark-stained softwood with a heavy-timber frame and vertical slats that appear to be repurposed barrel staves. The high corner back features two horizontal stretchers supporting hand-carved wooden fish figures. Below the back is a triangular plank seat over a two-door storage cupboard. The cupboard doors are secured by a central wooden latch and mounted on iron strap hinges. The overall finish is dark and weathered, consistent with a rustic aesthetic. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible. A lot tag numbered 745 is attached to the upper-left post.
