Lot 841: An Early 20th-century Japanese Style Hand-Carved Hardwood Two-tier Side Table
An early 20th-century Japanese style two-tier side table or plant stand, carved from a dark-stained hardwood, likely teak or padauk. This design is consistent with Eastern export furniture retailed by firms such as Liberty & Co. during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The circular top features a deep, hand-carved relief depicting stylised chrysanthemum or sunflower heads. The table stands on a tripod base of three curved legs, decorated with carved foliate patterns and textured grounds to the knees. The legs are connected by a smaller circular under-tier that bears a matching carved sunburst motif. There are no visible maker’s marks or stamps; the item carries a Liskeard Auction Room lot label numbered 841.
