An antique nautical double pulley block shell, likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The item is constructed from a dense, oily hardwood, characteristic of lignum vitae, which was historically used in ship rigging for its durability and resistance to rot. The block is shaped with two deep slots designed to accommodate internal sheaves and features a central transverse aperture for an axle pin.
