Lot 657: A Trio of Burmese Painted Lacquerware Items
A trio of Burmese lacquerware items, comprising one large circular lid or plaque and two smaller circular lidded trinket boxes. The objects are finished with a black lacquer coating over a wood or possibly woven bamboo substrate. The large circular lid is hand-painted with a floral and avian scene, depicting two large chrysanthemums in blue and orange-yellow, green foliage, and a small bird. The decorative paint is applied with a slight relief or impasto quality. The two smaller lidded boxes feature a central ceremonial elephant motif in a blue and green colour palette, framed by concentric bands of stylised foliate and petal designs.
