Start price: £40

Estimated price: £40 - £60

Buyer's Premium:

A shallow rectangular serving dish with canted corners and a slightly scalloped, flared rim. The piece is hand-painted in overglaze enamels in the ‘Dragon in Compartments’ pattern, also known as ‘Bengal Tiger’, which was produced by Chamberlain’s Worcester and other prominent English factories in the early 19th century. The decoration features a central floral spray with a large red peony-style blossom and a prominent blue feathery leaf. The border is ornamented with four green-ground panels containing stylised scroll patterns and circular red motifs, separated by smaller floral sprays in a palette of red, pink, yellow, and turquoise. The rim is finished with a thin brown-ochre line. The ceramic body is a bright white porcelain with characteristic pooling of the glaze in the recesses. No factory marks or base inscriptions are visible.
