Buyer's Premium:

A framed offset lithograph reproduction print after an original work by the maritime artist S. Francis Smitheman. The print is titled The steamship The Great Britain arriving at South Street, New York, on 30th August, 1845 on her maiden voyage. The composition depicts the historic iron-hulled steamship at a busy New York wharf, surrounded by various sailing ships and paddle steamers. The lower margin features printed text identifying the artist as S. Francis Smitheman, A.T.D., B.A., F.R.S.A., alongside the central title and a copyright notice for the s.s. Great Britain Project to the lower right. The artist’s signature is printed in the plate at the lower left corner of the image. This appears to be an open edition reproduction, as no hand-signed marks or limited edition numbering are visible. The work is presented behind glass with a cream-coloured mount and is housed in a mahogany-finished wooden frame featuring a gilt inner fillet.
