Lot 377: A Collection of Vintage C&A Rainwear Advertising Ephemera and Bridal Accessories
An assortment of early to mid-20th-century advertising ephemera and vintage bridal textiles. The ephemera includes illustrated booklets and leaflets for C&A Modes Limited, specifically focusing on their rainwear line marketed as C&A Mac. One booklet is a multi-page fold-out titled FROM THIS BRILLIANT RANGE, featuring Art Deco-style fashion illustrations of ladies’ macintoshes and raincoats with pre-decimal British pricing such as 7/6 and 17/6. Another leaflet features the slogan There’s a rainbow smile in every shower when you wear a C&A Mac and is described as The greatest money-saving garment in your wardrobe! A separate cover or leaflet is titled Don’t get it Wet! and bears the C&A logo. The textile collection comprises items associated with bridal wear, including a white floral and beaded bridal headpiece, a circular white fabric-wrapped wire millinery frame, and a length of white tulle netting. Also present is a section of cream-coloured fabric with silver-toned embroidery and lace details, along with various satin ribbon remnants and a decorative floral sprig.
Condition report:
The ephemera displays characteristic signs of age, including general toning, creasing, and minor foxing. The Don\'t get it Wet! leaflet shows visible staining and moisture-related rippling. The textiles are in fair vintage condition, showing age-related toning to the whites and creasing to the netting. All items are sold as seen.
