Lot 655: A Trio of Antique and Vintage Brass and Copper Metalware including a Sir Walter Scott Commemorative Quaich
A collection of three metal objects of varying form and function. The first item is a cast brass or bronze commemorative drinking bowl, or quaich, featuring a central relief portrait bust to the interior surrounded by the inscription SIR WALTER SCOTT and the dates 1771-1832. The lug handles are cast in the form of thistles. The base shows worn, partially legible incised characters resembling B D C. The second object is a decorative two-handled brass vessel, likely a small planter or vase, with three horizontal bands of hand-incised zigzag patterns and an unusual openwork foot composed of interlocking rings. It has a dark, undisturbed patina. The third object is a small cylindrical copper measure or pail with a series of raised concentric bands and a seamed construction.
