Lot 656: A Set of Seven Ceramic Collector Plates Including Wedgwood and Edwin M. Knowles
This collection consists of seven ceramic collector plates featuring rural English landscapes and wildlife. One plate is from the Wedgwood Country Days series, titled Lunch Break, issued in 1992 and based on original artwork by Chris Howells. It is crafted from fine bone china and is fully marked on the reverse with a Wedgwood backstamp, plate number 2797D, and Bradex number 26-W90-43.4. Another plate is from the Edwin M. Knowles The Stately Owls series, titled The Great Horned Owl, issued in 1989 after an artwork by Jim Beaudoin. This plate is marked with the number 5530 D, Bradex number 84-K41-78.2, and includes a safety notice regarding its status as an art object not for food use due to the pigments used. The remaining five plates depict various traditional rural village scenes including thatched cottages, horse-drawn carts, and agricultural life, rendered in a stylistically similar manner to the Country Days series. All plates are circular with transfer-printed pictorial designs based on original paintings.
