Lot 661: A Capodimonte Style Hand-Painted Porcelain Oval Dish
A white porcelain dish of shallow oval form featuring a moulded scalloped rim with a gilt edge. The interior is decorated with a hand-painted central vignette depicting two swans in a marshland setting with bulrushes and a smaller bird in flight, executed in a manner reminiscent of eighteenth-century Chelsea porcelain bird patterns. The border is further adorned with various polychrome floral sprays and sprigs in red, blue, pink, and yellow. The base of the item bears an underglaze blue mark consisting of the letter N surmounted by a crown, historically associated with the Royal Factory of Naples (Capodimonte) and later used by factories such as Doccia (Ginori) and Edme Samson. Also present on the reverse are an impressed wavy scroll-like mark and the impressed number 95.
