Lot 848: A Pair of Hand-Knotted Wool Tribal Rugs in the Serapi Style
This lot comprises a pair of hand-knotted wool rugs featuring traditional tribal designs in the Serapi style. Each rug is constructed with a wool pile on a cotton foundation. The larger rug features a vibrant red ground decorated with a large, stepped central medallion in khaki green and cream, surrounded by smaller geometric and floral motifs in navy blue and yellow. It includes a contrasting border with a repeating geometric pattern set against a cream ground. The smaller rug follows a similar aesthetic, with a red ground and a central hooked medallion in a yellow-green hue, flanked by navy blue and white geometric elements. A white adhesive label marked with the number 848 is visible on the larger rug. Both items have small cardboard tags attached with string.
