Lot 155: A 20th Century Aluminium Milk Churn
A three-section folding surveyor’s levelling staff constructed from a dark hardwood with black-painted sides and reverse. The measuring face is finished in an off-white tone and features bold E-pattern graduations in black and red, including large numerals for 2, 3, and 6. The sections are secured when folded by an integrated leather binding strap with a metal buckle. A handwritten paper label is affixed to one section which reads VENDOR 1924 OLD SURVEYORS STAFF. A partial auction house lot tag is also present. This type of instrument was used in conjunction with a level or transit for land surveying and vertical distance measurement.
