Lot 1018: Mid-Century Style Lift-Top School Desk
This dining suite is designed in the Regency Revival style, characteristic of mid-20th-century British furniture manufacture. The twin-pedestal dining table features a rectangular top with figured mahogany veneers and a decorative egg-and-dart carved moulding along the apron. A visible seam across the centre suggests the table is an extending model. The top is supported by two substantial pedestals, each with outswept legs ending in scroll feet. The matching set of chairs comprises both carvers and side chairs. These chairs feature curved front legs and openwork back splats with a geometric interlaced design. The carver chairs are fitted with S-scroll arms. Each chair has a drop-in seat upholstered in a cream-coloured fabric with a traditional floral and foliate pattern in shades of red, green, and blue. A white auction house label with the handwritten numbers 1021 and B 21 is present on the tabletop. No maker’s marks or factory stamps were observed.
