Lot 101: A Vintage Taxidermy Butterfly and Floral Display in a Glass Dome
A vintage decorative natural history display featuring two taxidermy lepidoptera specimens. The upper specimen is a brown butterfly with dark veining and distinct underside eye-spot markings, characteristic of the Satyrinae subfamily. The lower specimen exhibits a brown ground colour accented with cream spotting. Both specimens are mounted onto two upright sections of natural bamboo. The arrangement is embellished with dried ferns, preserved Gypsophila, and artificial silk or paper flowers, including white daisies and a pale green rosebud. The display is housed under a clear glass cloche which rests on a circular, multi-tiered dark-stained wooden base. No maker marks, labels, or stamps are visible on the item.
