Lot 132: George III Sterling Silver Cream Jug by Alice and George Burrows II London 1800
A George III sterling silver cream jug of helmet-shaped form produced by the silversmiths Alice and George Burrows II. The body is decorated with bright-cut engraved bands featuring foliate swags and geometric patterns. A laurel wreath cartouche to the front encloses an engraved heraldic dolphin crest. The vessel features a flared rim and a reeded strap handle. Much of the original gilding remains to the interior. The piece rests on a flat oval base. Full English hallmarks are struck to the upper body including the maker mark AB over GB in a square punch, the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard head for the London Assay Office, the date letter E for 1800, and the sovereign head duty mark for King George III.
