Lot 134: American Sterling Silver-Gilt Repoussé Nut Dish in the Art Nouveau Style
A circular sterling silver-gilt (vermeil) nut dish or pin tray designed in the Art Nouveau style. The piece features a shallow well and a decorative flared rim with a wavy, lobed edge. The interior is embellished with intricate high-relief repoussé work depicting a naturalistic blackberry bramble, comprising clusters of fruit, detailed serrated leaves, and small blossoms. The entire surface is finished with a yellow gold-gilt wash. The centre of the well is stamped with the marks STERLING 925/000. This specific notation is characteristic of North American sterling silver or silver produced for the international export market during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. No maker’s marks or traditional British assay hallmarks are present.
