Lot 149: Late Victorian Swiss 0.935 Silver Ladies Open Face Key Wind Fob Watch
This is a late 19th-century ladies fob watch of Swiss manufacture, produced for the British market. The open-face case is crafted from 0.935 purity silver, featuring an elaborately engraved floral and foliate design on the reverse with a vacant shield-shaped cartouche. The interior of the case back bears the Swiss Three Bears hallmark (one large bear above two smaller bears), which was the official Swiss mark for 93.5% silver destined for export between 1882 and 1934. The case is also stamped with the numerical mark 0935 within a hexagonal frame, the serial number 82586, and a single digit 8. The white enamel dial features black Roman numeral hour markers and gold-coloured minute dots. The centre of the dial is decorated with an ornate gold-tone filigree scrollwork pattern and features gilt-finished spade hands. The timepiece contains a manual key-wind and key-set movement, with access to the winding and setting arbors provided through two circular apertures in the inner silver dust cover.
