Lot 153: Three Vintage and Antique Childhood Novelty Items Including a Guardsman Whistle, Teddy Bear, and Teething Ring
A trio of childhood novelty items comprising a whistle, a miniature figure, and a teething ring rattle.
The first item is a novelty baby’s whistle pendant fashioned as a British infantry guardsman wearing a bearskin hat. The hollow metal whistle is constructed of electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) and features a dual-tone whistle aperture at the base of the boots and a suspension loop at the top of the head. The reverse of the tunic is stamped with separate rectangular punches reading EPNS above a stamped model number H72304.
The second item is a miniature standing teddy bear figure of cast brass construction, depicted with a bow tie and textured fur. There are no visible maker’s marks.
The third item is a baby’s teething ring rattle, comprising a solid cream-coloured ring, possibly bone or early plastic, fitted with three silver-plated or white metal crotal-type rattle bells attached by split-ring hangers. No maker’s marks are detected on the ring or bells.

Teddy bear length: approximately 4.5 cm
Teething ring diameter: approximately 4.5 cm.
