Lot 159: A Set of Edwardian Sterling Silver-Handled Tea Knives in a Fitted Case
A set of tea or butter knives featuring filled sterling silver handles with scrolled pistol-grip terminals, housed in a custom-fitted presentation case. The handles are stamped with Sheffield hallmarks, including the maker’s mark GH for George Howson of Harrison Brothers & Howson, the crown for Sheffield, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the date letter o for 1906. The blades are constructed of unmarked metal, likely steel or silver plate.
The presentation case features a dark blue leatherette exterior with a functional brass clasp. The interior lid is lined with blue satin and stamped in gilt with the retailer’s details: SKINNER & CO. / SILVERSMITHS / & DIAMOND MERCHANTS / ORCHARD STREET / LONDON W. The base of the case is fitted and lined with purple velvet.
