Lot 497: A collection of five 20th-century Chinese glazed stoneware figurines including mudmen and a cat
A collection of five 20th-century Chinese glazed stoneware figurines, comprising four traditional mud man style figures and one large cat figurine. These pieces are characteristic of Shiwan (Shekwan) ware, featuring expressive facial features and vibrant glazes. The group includes a depiction of two scholars engaged in a board game, possibly Go or Weiqi, finished in blue and white glazes. Also included is a seated fisherman in deep blue robes perched on a rocky outcrop, holding a slender removable rod and accompanied by a small basket. There are two individual seated elder figures, one in a rich green glaze and the other in a mustard yellow glaze, both with detailed white-glazed beards and hair. The large seated cat figurine is decorated with a white base glaze and polychrome floral and leaf motifs in an oriental style.
