Lot 600: Three Melo species marine gastropod shells including Melo melo and Melo amphora examples
A trio of large marine gastropod shells of the genus Melo, originating from the Indo-Pacific. The lot includes specimens consistent with Melo melo, commonly known as the Indian Volute, and Melo amphora, known as the Bailer Shell. These shells are notable for their large, bulbous body whorls and wide apertures, which led to their traditional use by coastal inhabitants as vessels for bailing water from canoes. The shells carry several identifying labels, including a lot sticker for HCP Auctions South West (Lot 600) and various inventory stickers numbered 665 and 13.
