Buyer's Premium:

This item is a vernacular, country-style wooden side chair, likely of 19th or early 20th-century British regional origin. The chair features a thick, single-slab seat constructed from wood exhibiting broad, swirling grain patterns characteristic of elm. The back is composed of two rectangular-section uprights joined by two plain, horizontal slats. It is supported by four simple, turned cylindrical legs braced by plain round stretchers in a box configuration. The frame and legs are likely constructed from mixed hardwoods such as ash or beech. Joinery includes mortise and tenon joints where the back uprights meet the seat and rails, with the legs socketed into the underside of the slab seat. The wood has an aged, weathered, and scrubbed appearance with a natural greyed patina. A modern adhesive lot sticker is present on the seat from HCP Auctions South West, identifying it as Lot 779.
