Lot 101: A Late 19th Century Chinese Blue and White Porcelain Sleeve Vase with Apocryphal Kangxi Mark
A Chinese porcelain sleeve vase of tall cylindrical form with a slightly flared rim. The exterior surface is decorated in underglaze blue with a cracked ice and prunus blossom ground. This pattern is interrupted by two large, lobed reserve panels, each depicting a bird perched amidst flowering peony or chrysanthemum branches. The base features a four-character underglaze blue mark arranged in two vertical columns, reading Kangxi Nian Zhi. This translates to Made during the reign of Kangxi (1662-1722), however, the decorative style and tone of the cobalt suggest this is an apocryphal mark produced during the late 19th century.
