Lot 491: A Pair of No. 101 Miniature Squirrel-Tail Block Planes
This lot comprises a pair of vintage squirrel-tail block planes, intended for fine woodworking and detail trimming tasks. Each tool is constructed with a cast-iron body featuring an integrated, curved rear handle designed for a palm grip. A prominent marking of 101 is cast into the toe of one plane, denoting the model number associated with this specific pattern of compact block plane. Both examples include a simple blade and a lever cap assembly, which is held in place by a knurled metal thumb screw. The surfaces show evidence of their original black japanned finish, now worn and aged through historical use. The blades are made of steel and fit into the central throat of the cast bodies.
