Lot 914: George III Style Mahogany Serpentine Bachelor's Chest of Drawers
A mid-20th-century Georgian-style serpentine-front chest of drawers, of compact proportions often referred to as a bachelor’s chest. The primary structure is mahogany, featuring decorative flame mahogany veneers to the drawer fronts and a crossbanded top. The chest comprises four graduated drawers, each with a curved front to follow the serpentine profile of the carcass. The drawers are constructed with machine-cut dovetail joints and are lined with a light-coloured softwood, likely pine. The piece is fitted with brass batwing style backplates and swan-neck drop handles, and it stands on traditional shaped bracket feet.
