Lot 1075: A Pair of 19th Century Hand-Coloured Aquatints, Hare Hunting, Plate 1 and Plate 2
A pair of 19th-century hand-coloured aquatints depicting traditional British hunting scenes. The prints are titled Hare Hunting, Plate 1 and Plate 2, and include a publication line mentioning Soho. The scenes illustrate numerous figures in red hunting coats on horseback accompanied by packs of hounds traversing a rolling rural landscape, with a small building visible in the background of the first plate. The prints are executed using the aquatint technique to create tonal depth and are finished with hand-applied watercolour. They are housed in matching figured wood frames with a dark scumbled finish, possibly mahogany or bird’s-eye maple, featuring gilded inner slips and glazing. The prints are set within wide paper mounts.
