Lot 628: A Pair of Small Early 20th Century Art Pottery Bud Vases
A pair of small ceramic art pottery bud vases of ovoid form. Each vase is hand-painted with naturalistic floral motifs, possibly representing anemones or poppies, in a palette of pale yellow, white, and cobalt blue with dark stippled centres. The decoration is set against a mottled, variegated background glaze transitioning through heather purple, soft brown, and grey tones. The vases feature short, narrow necks with slightly flared rims and foot rings, both finished in a dark matt charcoal-coloured glaze. The decorated bodies have a high-gloss finish. One vase bears a small white rectangular paper inventory label with the handwritten digits 46671. No factory marks, backstamps, or incised signatures are visible on the bodies or bases of either piece.
