Lot 788: A German Space-Age Brushed Aluminium and Smoked-Glass Square Coffee Table, Circa 1970
A sculptural German modernist coffee table, dating from approximately the late 1960s to early 1970s. The frame is formed from four interlocking bent brushed-aluminium sections, creating broad architectural supports at each corner. The substantial square smoked-glass top lifts out and rests within a supported recessed opening; there is no mechanical or extending action.
This distinctive anonymous design is sometimes compared stylistically with the furniture of Georges Frydman, although no manufacturer’s label or designer attribution has been found.
