Lot 396: An Antique Late Victorian Hand-cranked Cast Iron Sewing Machine and Case
An antique late Victorian hand-cranked cast iron sewing machine and case, featuring a black-enamelled body decorated with ornate gold-toned floral and scrollwork decals. The machine is mounted upon a rectangular wooden base and includes a matching fitted wooden cover with an inset metal handle plate. The manual hand-crank mechanism is fitted with a white porcelain rotating handle and a spoked fly-wheel. A circular brass medallion is fixed to the arm, bearing the legible word MANUFACTORY along the lower edge, though the remaining text is obscured by wear. An adjacent rectangular metal plate is inscribed PATENTED followed by several columns of illegible dates and serial numbers. A white adhesive auction label is present on the wooden case reading HCP Auctions South West Lot 396.
