Lot 490: Two Antique Price & Sons and Safi Ceramic Vessels
Two antique Price & Sons and Safi ceramic vessels, comprising a salt-glazed stoneware flagon and a hand-painted earthenware vase. The Victorian stoneware flagon is of traditional two-tone form with a tan upper and cream lower body, featuring a single loop handle and narrow neck. The shoulder is impressed with large lettering reading MOTT & Co / LEICESTER, and an oval potter’s mark near the handle base is impressed PRICE & SONS / BRISTOL. The Moroccan earthenware vase is of pear-shaped form with a flared foot, finished in a turquoise and cobalt blue faience glaze. The body is hand-painted with an imbricated fish-scale pattern and stylized floral motifs. The base bears handwritten black ink marks reading SAFI and a line of Arabic script.
