Buyer's Premium:

An antique George III mahogany extending dining table, featuring a rectangular top with rounded corners and a crossbanded border. The table is supported by four square tapered legs, each decorated with inlaid boxwood stringing and decorative rectangular panels. The legs terminate in brass box castors. The top comprises two main sections with a central seam, designed to be pulled apart to accommodate additional leaves. The mahogany surfaces exhibit a deep reddish-brown colour with a visible wood grain, accented by the contrasting wood inlays to the frieze and legs. A small white rectangular adhesive label is present on the edge of the tabletop reading 1201A, and another label is visible on an adjacent piece reading 301 (photo 2). No maker’s marks or signatures are legible on the piece itself.

Large-scale furniture items; exact dimensions are not provided.

Condition report:

The table shows signs of significant use and storage wear. The mahogany veneered top exhibits numerous surface scratches, scuffs, and abrasions visible across the entire surface (photo 1). There is noticeable wear and finish loss along the edges and corners of the tabletop. One leg shows a small chip and loss to the veneer near the top of the inlaid section (photo 2). The piece is heavily covered in a layer of dust and cobwebs, particularly to the base and underside (photos 1 and 2). All four brass castors appear to be present. No extension leaves are present in the photographs.
