Lot 1056: A Vintage Oak Fall-front Bureau / Desk
A vintage oak fall-front bureau / desk from the early to mid-20th century, constructed with a medium brown polished finish over quartersawn oak. The upper section features a fall-front desk flap which opens to reveal a writing surface and interior pigeonholes. Below the desk section are two full-width drawers, each fitted with circular, dark-patinated metal pull handles featuring an embossed floral starburst motif. The piece is designed with distinctive rounded vertical mouldings flanking the drawer fronts, which terminate in compressed bun feet set on square plinths. The drawers appear to be of solid construction with standard joinery of the period. Two escutcheons are present, one located centrally on the fall-front and one on the upper drawer. A white rectangular paper label is affixed to the lower left side, printed with the number 1056, and a circular pink adhesive sticker is affixed to the lower left front face, with the handwritten number 32. No manufacturer’s marks or stamps are visible on the exterior.
Large-scale furniture items; exact dimensions are not provided.
Condition report:

There is noticeable wear to the finish along the edges and corners, particularly on the fall-front and the base mouldings. The wooden feet show minor nicks and abrasions. The fall-front displays a slight gap when closed, indicating a possible minor misalignment of the hinges or latch mechanism.
