Lot 1059: A Mid-Century Hand-Carved Hardwood Coffee Table
A mid-century hand-carved hardwood coffee table, constructed from a dense, medium-toned tropical hardwood. The rectangular top features a broad, hand-carved perimeter border decorated with a repeating motif of scrolling vines and foliate leaves. The table is supported by four square-section legs that are set at a slight splay and taper towards the feet. The top surface displays a visible grain and is finished in a warm brown tone. A white rectangular adhesive auction label is present on the top surface, printed with the text HCP Auctions South West and Lot 1059 in black ink. No other manufacturer’s marks, signatures, or stamps are visible on the upper surfaces or legs.

Condition report:
The table shows significant signs of age and wear across the top surface. There are numerous scratches, scuffs, and several deeper gouges visible in the central field (photo 1). The finish appears worn and thinned in several areas, with faint circular marks suggesting previous water damage (photo 1). The hand-carved border remains largely intact and crisp, although it has accumulated dust within the recessed areas (photo 1). The splayed legs show minor scuffing and impact marks, particularly around the feet. The piece is structurally sound but requires professional refinishing to the top surface.
