Lot 599: A Vintage The Pier Set of Composite Elephant Shadow Box Wall Art
A vintage set of composite elephant shadow box wall art produced for the retailer The Pier. The display features a graduated arrangement of seven stylised elephant figures presented in profile, increasing in size from top to bottom. The figures are finished with a textured, antiqued surface and decorated with green and dark brown patterns reminiscent of traditional South Asian caparisons or bone inlay work. These elements are mounted in a vertical line within a deep recessed cream-coloured mount, housed behind glass in a simple rectangular black-finished frame. The reverse of the piece bears a rectangular white adhesive label printed with the characters PLU 366526, MADE IN CHINA FOR, the, and PIER. A partial white inventory sticker is affixed to the front lower-left corner of the mount with the handwritten number 599 and printed text ending in ns South West.
Condition report:
The item is in good decorative condition. The black frame shows minor surface dust and light handling marks throughout (photo 1). A small dark speck is visible on the cream-coloured mount adjacent to the smallest elephant figure at the top (photo 1). The glass is clear and intact without visible chips or cracks. The backing board remains securely in place (photo 2).
