Lot 610: A Vintage Emile Henry Glazed Stoneware Spoon Rest
A vintage Emile Henry glazed stoneware spoon rest, of long rectangular form with a notched narrow end designed to hold a kitchen utensil. The piece is finished in a vibrant apple green high-gloss glaze across the exterior and interior surfaces. The top surface displays a white circular transfer mark featuring a shield device with a stylised cross icon, flanked by the name ‘Emile Henry’ above ‘FRANCE’. The unglazed buff stoneware base is impressed with the same maker’s shield and name, alongside the model number ‘906’ and the phrase ‘MODELE DEPOSE’. Additional impressed marks on the base include ‘JUD’ over the numbers ‘02.61’. The construction is robust, typical of French culinary stoneware, featuring rounded corners and a slightly recessed reservoir to contain drips.
Condition report:
Excellent condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible to the glazed surfaces. There is some minor surface staining and light shelf wear present on the unglazed biscuit base (photo 2). The glaze retains its original high gloss.
