Lot 633: A Mid-Century Collection of Carved Hardwood Figurines and a Stand
A collection of mid-century carved hardwood figurines and a supporting stand, demonstrating varied ethnographic styles. The largest figurine is carved from a dense, dark hardwood, possibly ebony, depicting an elongated female figure in a seated or kneeling pose. It features a high, stylized headdress with fine vertical linear incisions, a serene facial expression with closed eyes, and slender proportions. The wood is finished with a smooth, deep patina. A second figure is carved from a mid-tone hardwood, showing a highly stylized female form with fluid, abstract contours. The third and smallest figurine is carved from a warm, reddish-brown wood and depicts a stylized head or bust with smooth surfaces. The group is accompanied by a simple geometric wooden stand with a square base and a triangular-framed upright. The collection appears to be in good overall condition. There is a layer of surface dust and minor wear consistent with age and display across all items (photo 1). The dark hardwood elongated figure exhibits some minor surface scuffs typical of handled hardwood (photo 4). No structural cracks, major drying splits, or repairs are visible in the provided images.
